Ms. Kelly Wells

Ms. Wells grew up in New Jersey. She went for her undergraduate degree at Bowling Green University and she received her graduate degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She has been teaching at this school for six years, the same amount of years she has been teaching her entire life. What inspired Ms. Wells to become a teacher is that she likes working with children because "they're so entertaining." Ms. Wells was in a classroom full of 8th graders when she was announced Teacher of the Year. She said, "all the students started clapping and whooping it up." Her favorite thing about teaching is when she asks a question and her students make a connection or have an idea that she never thought of before. Before teaching, she worked at a company that sold computers. If she wasn't a teacher she would like to spend all of her time "designing units, lessons and interactive activities that involve computers for other teachers to use with their students." Congratulations Ms. Wells!

Question and Answer with Ms. Kayan

Ms. Kayan is Mr. Sand's new assistant teacher. To get the 411 on Ms. Kayan, we asked her a few questions.

Q: Which college do you attend?
A: "I am currently studying music education at Westminster Choir College of Rider University."

Q: Is this your first time assistant teaching?
A: "This is the first time I am student teaching by myself. Last semester, I was in a group that taught at John Witherspoon Middle School in Princeton, NJ. I taught 6th Grade General Music there. This time last year, I was also placed with another student at Hopewell Elementary School in Hopewell, NJ where I taught preschool through 5th grade General Music."

Q: What is your favorite part about coming into the chorus room each day?
A: "I really love being surrounded by music all the time. The teachers and students are all really nice and friendly, and the choirs are working on very cool pieces that I enjoy helping with. It's great to be able to come into the chorus room each day and have that experience."

Q: How long will you be teaching with Mr. Sands?
A: "I will be student teaching with Mr. Sands until late April."

Q: Do you like being with Mr. Sands?
A: "Yes. Mr. Sands is a really great teacher. I think I will learn a lot from him by watching him teach and having him help me improve when I am up in front of the class."

Q: Do you think this school is a good environment for you to assistant teach in?
A: "Yes. I really love working with Mr. Sands and everyone here is really friendly. It's great to be able to work in a place outside of Princeton to see what other kind of schools and music programs there are. I think I will be able to learn a lot here and hopefully teach the students something as well."

Q: What is your favorite food?
A: "My favorite food would have to be my mother's mashed potatoes."

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: "Since I live in the dorms at school, I am not allowed to have any pets. My family at home in Connecticut owns two outdoor cats, though, and I get to play with them when I visit."

Q: What do you do with your free time?
A: "During my free time I love to read and use the computer. I also like going to watch performances with different choirs and productions of musicals. When I have time, I also enjoy acting in some of the musicals and singing in some of the choirs at school."
