Willy Wonka Jr.
On March 6 and 7, a musical called Willy Wonka Jr. was showing. It was performed by the 7th and 8th graders. It was a terrific show. It was very much like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I liked a lot of things in the musical, like when Charlie and Grandpa Joe drank the soda and it made them float (The actors used a ladder to “float.”) When they were burping, there were burping sounds in the background. Another part that I really liked was the Oompa Loompas. The choreography was remarkable! Also I admire that, if they made a mistake, they fixed it quickly and made it like part of the dance. My two favorite parts were when they used a doll for Mike Teevee since he shrunk, and when the kids got on the pink boat. To show it was going really fast, they blinked colorful lights rapidly. Bravo, 7th and 8th graders!
Club of the Issue: Peer Leaders
Here at Bernardsville Middle School we have a Peer Leadership program, led by Ms. Drew. The Peer Leaders are a voluntary group of seventh and eighth grade students. All of these people are “interested in developing leadership skills and promoting school spirit,” says Ms. Drew. Peer Leaders aim mainly to make the fifth graders feel like they are a part of the school and adapt to the environment. The main goal of Peer Leaders is to promote the integration of students with other kids outside their everyday “cliques”. To do this, the peer leaders do “getting-to-you-know-you” activities. For instance, the peer leaders recently went down to the fifth grade classrooms to build towers of pasta and marshmallows to see how kids work together in groups. Peer Leaders also organize New Student Luncheons and Peer Tutoring at Bedwell.
