Highlighted Sport of the Issue: Track

Yes, it is mid-spring and as we’re jumping into the summer season. That means the sport of track is underway!  Coached by Mr. Laspada, Ms. Malwitz, Mr. Habermas and Ms. Hogan, the sport can do nothing but prosper. All of these teachers contribute in one or multiple field or track events.

Some may think that track is just running, however, this is a common misconception. Yes, the sport does involve running events, including the 100-meter dash, the 100-meter dash with hurdles, the 200-meter dash, and the 400-meter run. Also, for long distance runners, there is the 800-meter race and the 1600-meter race. However, for some members of the track team, running may not be their forte, but they may be better in upper body strength. For this reason, there are field sports. These field events include discus (you throw a disk and reach for your greatest length), shot put (similar to discus but instead of throwing a disk you use a heavy ball), and last but not least, long jump (you run a certain length and then leap into a sand pit – trying to go to your greatest length).

All in all, track is a wonderful sport that is nothing but fun and able to suit all of its member’s strengths.
