Review of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

I thought that the fifth and sixth graders did a good job putting on the production. I really admired the scenery. The stage transformed from a forest, to a school, to a house. The costumes were great, too. They looked liked the time of when the story took place, the early 1800’s. The students themselves were terrific. It almost looked liked they were the real characters. They did a fabulous job – Congratulations!

Literary Magazine

Have you ever thought about a Middle School Literary Magazine? Well, one of Bernardsville Middle School’s own Literacy teachers, Mrs. White, thought that it would be a great idea for our middle school to have. This year the newest after school activity is The Literary Magazine!! Mrs. White got the idea to do the club because last year so many kids wrote fantastic stories that she wanted to let everybody else read them. The club has titled this new hit The Late Bell. To tell you the truth, I think that is a really cool name. Don’t you?

The Literary Magazine meets two days a month – the second and fourth Tuesday. Each meeting, members receive an agenda that they follow for the one hour that they are together. If they have received any submissions from that week then each member will get a copy of the manuscripts. Then everyone will get an evaluation sheet and a comment log. As the members read the submitted pieces, they write their thoughts about the piece in the log. The evaluation form includes questions with yes or no answers. At the bottom there is a space to total the evaluations. Members will fill this out when they have finished reading. At the end they share their perspectives on the particular piece and they vote whether it will fit in with the magazine or if it won’t.

If students would like to submit any of their work to the magazine, including poems, skits, short stories, essays, and plays, they can drop it off in the box in the library. Students also need to fill out a submission form. The club is still deciding if they want to put it out during lunch or activity period. It should come out sometime in May.

Hopefully they will get lots of submissions. The Bulldog News wishes them the best of luck! We can’t wait until the first issue comes out! JJ
