National Latin Exam Award March 2002 (Judi Martin, teacher):

	Summa Cum Laude: Gold Medalist awarded to 3 BHS students.
	Maxima Cum Laude: Silver Medalist awarded to 2 BHS students.
	Magna Cum Laude awarded to 3 BHS students.
	Cum Laude awarded to 4 BHS students.

Teacher Christine Whitlock was named as a recipient of the 2000-2001 Mark of Distinction Teaching Grant from the Business & Education Partnership of Somerset & Hunterdon counties.

Four BHS students were honored for Winning 1st Place in the NJ High School Video Contest sponsored by Kean University Department of Communication & Theater.  The Students produced a 30 second Public Service Announcement on Teenage Pregnancies.

Advanced Placement scores at BHS are the highest in the history of the school

The Partnership for America's Future Inc.
Two Middle School students have been chosen as winners in the Partnership
for America's Future Inc. for the months of June and July.  They will receive 
$100 each, a certificate and be posted on the Partnership web site.

Teacher Lorrie Lane has won the following competitive awards and grants:

	Somerset Hills Education Foundation grant of $1000 to develop a multi-cultural unit of study in literature for the 5th grade using the story of Cinderella as a catalyst.  (April 2002)
	Toshiba Mini-grant of $750 to develop a unit of study on alternate energy sources with 5th graders.  (January 2002)
	NEA/NFIE grant of $1500 to attend technology convention in Atlanta.  (October 2001)

Forensics (coached by Lorrie Lane and Lindsay Kielley):

	Interpretive Reading (November 2001) Competitors read a story or poem between 4 to 7 minutes in length. Varsity: Team placed second; student won 2nd place trophy. JV Team:  Team won Championship; students won 2nd and 3rd place trophies.
	Oratorical Declamation (February 2002) Competitors memorize a speech between 4 and 7 minutes in length. Varsity:  Team won Championship; students won 1st place and finalist trophies. JV:  Team placed second; students won 1st and 3rd place trophies.
	Debate  (May 2000) Varsity: Two 5th place trophies against excellent competition. JV Team: Two championships and 4 sets of trophies.
	Oratorical Declamation (February 2000) Varsity: Team Championship, 2 Finalist trophies in Individual Competition JV Team: Finalist trophy in Individual Competition. Odyssey of the Mind - Won State and Regional competitions and participated in the World Championships in 1999.
	Interpretive Reading (November 1999) Varsity: Team Championship, 1st Place and Finalist trophies in Individual Competition.

Drama (coached by Lorrie Lane):

	Dramatic Pairs:  BMS students won 1st, 3rd and 5th place.
	Dramatic Monologue:  BMS student won 6th place.
	Comedy Pairs:  BMS students won 3rd place.
	Comedy Monologue:  BMS students won 5th and 6th place.

Young Inventors:

	Sears Craftsman Competition (May 2001) Two BMS students are winners in the Sears nationwide competition.   They will be honored at a school assembly on May 10.  A Sears  representative will present the winning 5th grader with a savings bond  for $5,000 and the winning 6th grader with a savings bond for $500. Their teachers will be recognized with gift certificates as well.
	NJ Music Educators Association Choral Festival (June 2000) Junior Select (6th & 7th graders) received rating of "Excellent." Senior Select (7th & 8th graders) received rating of "Superior."
	NJ SITE Contest (May 2000) BMS students won first place prize in 7th/8th grade competition with Baby Safety Harness.
	Sears Craftsman Competition (May 2000) Two BMS students are finalists in Sears nationwide competition.

Bedwell students won 3rd place and honorable mention for plays entered in the annual NJ Council of Teachers English writing contest.  (April 2002)

Teachers Eileen Tiffenbach, Emily Pike and Lin Miller received Somerset Hills Education Foundation grants. (April 2002)

Olivia Dorfman, Gifted/Talented teacher, and Malinda Davis-Campbell, school social worker, received a grant from the Somerset County Cultural Diversity Coalition for "Multi-cultural Theater."  (February 2002)

Bedwell School selected as one of 31 "Great Elementary Schools" by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.  (September 2001)

Teacher Christine Lemberg was named Volunteer of the Year by the Bernardsville Library for coordinating the ESL program
