Green Thumbs at Bedwell
The Garden Club at Bedwell Elementary School has been hard at work for weeks, preparing the campus' beds and gardens for the growing season. With over 25 third and fourth grade student volunteers, there are many tasks to get done and they have been working as a team!
They have also been active within the greater community, as the BES Garden Club hosted a table at the Bernardsville Green Fair held May 10th, where they shared their gardening knowledge with many! Then, on May 27th, they hosted a tomato seedling sale at Bedwell Elementary School where parents and residents were able to purchase some healthy seedlings and support the young gardeners! "It was fun to see our gardeners turned salespeople, pitching the different varieties of plants. One student even created an advertising jingle," shared Debbie Rokosky, who is a BES Garden Club staff advisor, along with Jordan Sakin, and Master Gardener Daina Gulbis.
Coming up on June 10th, they will hold a Bedwell Garden Open House where members from the Bernardsville and Somerset County Garden Clubs, along with the SHSD Administration, will be able to visit the school garden for guided garden tourswhile inhaling the scent of heirloom tomato plants... a smell sure to conjure up childhood summer memories!
