BHS Presents ‘The Wizard of Oz’
As "Wicked-mania" continues to grip the headlines, let's not forget L. Frank Baum’s classic novel that started it all. The Wizard of Oz comes to life in the faithful stage adaptation presented by Bernards High School Performing Arts featuring all the most beloved songs and moments from the 1939 classic film. It's a must see for anyone who loves the classic tale!
When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy (Alexis Szydlowski) and her dog, Toto (Gucci Szydlowski), are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow (Nate DeNicola) who needs a brain, a Tin Man (Joe Sorge) missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion (Sean Chen) who wants courage. The Wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West (Julia Schmidt) to earn his help. Perhaps most exciting part of this year's show is that actors from Bedwell Elementary School, Bedminster School, and Bernardsville Middle School have joined the cast as the Munchkins and Flying Monkeys! It will be a great time spent with family and friends of all ages!
The Bernards High School Performing Arts Center Parents organization will also host its second Community event this year: Encore Together: A day to celebrate our community with the magic of theater! On Saturday, March 7th they will host members of the community (65 and older), Matheny residents, and folks from the Residence at Basking Ridge. Guests will enjoy priority orchestra seating, a private dinner reception (following the matinee), and a photo opportunity with members of the cast.
Performances will take place Friday, March 6th - Sunday, March 8th at the Bernards High School Performing Arts Center.
