Jumps. Plays. Sacrifices. During the evening hours of November 18, 2024, the Bernards High School Student Council hosted its annual Dodgeball Tournament. Over 140 BHS students played their hearts out during the two-hour event through a full-blown round robin competition that was followed by an elimination bracket. Staff members were on hand to keep score and referee, which added to the fun!

The 21 teams, containing 5-8 players each, had a ton of school spirit! Original team uniforms included Gru and his minions, Santa and his elves, “Men in Black,” and “frat boys.” From the nominal entrance fee of $10, a small portion of the collection went toward gift cards for the winning team. However, the majority of the money was for a charitable donation. This year, the Make-a-Wish Foundation was the charity selected by the following Student Council officers: Ari Rosen, Andee Costabile, Addison Chisholm, Alex Vaccaro, and Finn Vaccaro. They proudly donated a total of $900 to Make-A-Wish in honor of Rosen’s brother Bryce, who died in 2021.

“I’m so proud of the efforts that the BHS Student Council continues to put forth. They organized a very exciting and successful event! And with the high turnout of students participating this year, they efficiently ran the tournament between two gymnasiums, which added an extra layer of coordination,” said Student Council Advisor Allison Snyder.

In addition to the 2024 Dodgeball Tournament, the BHS Student Council already ran the Pep Rally, Spirit Week, and Homecoming Dance. The Homecoming Dance holds the record for most student attendance ever at a school dance! Student Council members are now looking ahead, eager to plan Teacher Appreciation Week activities as well as the Class Clash!
