Everyday Hero for June Peter McCaffery

Peter McCaffery, a senior at Bernards High School, was recognized by the school as the “Everyday Hero” for June.

Nominees for the monthly Everyday Hero Program are students who have a positive influence on the student body through exemplary qualities. Selected students inspire others, are responsible and respectable and have a commitment to peers and the school community. Students are nominated by one or more teachers, selected by the Everyday Hero committee, and announced schoolwide by either Principal Scott Neigel or Assistant Principal Mike Corbett.

Peter demonstrates genuine compassion and kindness toward others every day.  During a medical emergency that occurred this year, his assistance was invaluable.  During this tense situation, he demonstrated exceptional composure and responsibility.  Immediately stepping in with a level head and compassion, he truly made a difference that day.  Not only was this hero prepared and calm, but his humility was quite impressive; he accepted no thanks for his assistance, but instead gave credit to his first aid teacher for properly training him and teaching him how to remain calm in an emergency.  His ability to care deeply about people and treat them with warmth and understanding reflects the qualities of a true hero.
