Lucian Spiteri, a junior at Bernards High School, has been recognized by the school as the “Everyday Hero” for March.

Nominees for the monthly Everyday Hero Program are students who have a positive influence on the student body through exemplary qualities. Selected students inspire others, are responsible and respectable and have a commitment to peers and the school community. Students are nominated by one or more teachers, selected by the Everyday Hero committee, and announced schoolwide by either Principal Scott Neigel or Assistant Principal Mike Corbett.

The March Everyday Hero is the MacGyver of this age. Well-organized, pattern recognizing, and considerate, he identifies solutions to problems that most of his peers– and sometimes his teachers– didn’t even know were present in the task at hand. Handy with tools and good with numbers, he can engineer solutions to problems with very little materials on hand and, nine times out of 10, they actually stick! When it comes to teamwork, this student sees the needs of a group before they’re needed and comes up with plans for resolving those needs. He understands when it is necessary to take risk and accepts responsibility, with grace and dignity, when the risk was too great. Lucian also identifies peers who are struggling and never hesitates to offer his assistance with understanding or belonging. With deep empathy and an innate compassion for every member of the BHS community, he is a true champion for all that is right. All of these are aspects of great leadership, excellent problem-solving skills, and a huge heart; and that’s why Lucian Spiteri is the Bernards High School Everyday Hero for March! 

Lucian, as well as his peers who will be recognized monthly during the 2024-2025 school year, will receive a generous gift certificate from Nicoletta Pizzeria, the sponsor of the Everyday Hero Program.
