The Girl Up Club's Empowerment Initiative

The Girl Up Club at Bernards High School started an “Empowerment Initiative” this year. One component is for club members to create an informative display in the BHS History Hallway display case every month for various heritage month celebrations. The goals are to decorate, to educate, and to celebrate!

This month, the club collaborated with the AAPI Club to create May's Display Case for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, showing posters of well-known and lesser-known AAPI individuals who have made important contributions to society, past and present! Special thanks to club advisors Jade Pietroluongo and Newstein Chang.

Additionally, last month, The Girl Up Club co-hosted a Voter Registration Drive with the League of Women Voters. The League of Women Voters of Greater New Brunswick trained BHS club members on voter registration prior to the event so student volunteers could help their peers with the registration process. In total, they registered 47 students at the event with almost 20 more forms sent home for completion! The Girl Up Club aimed to highlight the power of young people to get involved through registering, voting, and encouraging others to vote!
