Thurlow, Allen

Hello My Name Is...

Hello, I am Mr. Thurlow. I am a Bedwell alumni, graduate of Bernards High School, former 4th grade teacher, and current Technology & Design teacher. I received a computer science degree from Muhlenberg College, in Allentown, Pa, and my teachers certification from the College of Saint Elizabeth's in Madison, NJ. In addition to this, I have received my masters in Instructional Media from Wilkes University.

In the spring of 2015 I proudly became the Air Force Association Chapter Teacher of the year in technology in Chapter 195! I am proud to have been recognized as Bedwell's Educator of the Year in 2015/2016. This was a huge honor, considering how many amazing teachers there are in Bedwell!

In addition to teaching, I have experience coaching basketball and soccer at the high school level, where I previously served as an assistant basketball coach at Bernards High School for 8 years. I have also coached boys soccer at Bernards High School since 2005, helping them win 3 state championships in 2006, 2011, and 2016. We also won our first Somerset County title as outright champion in 2016.
Mr. Thurlow

I encourage my students to "think outside the box" by working on creative design projects involving technology and design. In each grade, we participate in design challenges, which allow students to become "problem solvers," and "creative thinkers." In addition to learning basic technology skills, we delve into large scale design projects which involved the whole school, with our Air & Space Museum in 2016 and 2017. Our project was such huge success, NASA called and congratulated us, and asked students about their projects! In our lab, we have ipads in the classroom, robotics, legos, Chromebooks, coding & typing clubs, a 3-d makerbot printer, a giant orange airplane, and even a fish tank!
