Literacy 7 Honors (Periods 7-8)
Our first READING WORKSHOP UNIT
focuses on "reading with agency and independence" as well "developing
analytical reading practices across genres". Students will work with
mentor texts (short stories, poetry) to develop their inferencing
skills, their ability to recognize allusions, their deeper thinking
about character, their ability to analyze theme development across text,
and their writing about reading.
Our first WRITING WORKSHOP UNIT
will tackle realistic fiction focusing on symbolism and syntax. We will
imagine everyday moments as a springboard to developing characters'
motivation and struggles. During our study we will also focus on word
choice and sentence structure.
